Paid Sperm Donations

(Find out about the compensation paid to men who donate their sperm, as well as other costs involved with sperm donation.)

Artificial insemination tends to be pretty pricy.1 When you artificially inseminate you pay for the cost of the investigation and diagnosis of the sperm donor, the cost of drug therapy, the cost of the artificial insemination procedure, and the cost of the hospital stay.1 There may be other charges, and you will need to talk to a fertility specialist about the total cost.1 There may be infertility treatment financing options that will make the cost more affordable.1 The average cost is from $2,000-$3,000.1

Paid sperm donation is common, unless you are a private donor.1 Sperm donation pay varies from clinic to clinic.1 The range can be anywhere from $35-$100.1 The average payment is $35-$50 per specimen.1 Banks usually have a 6-month gap between the donation and the payment.1 This is to ensure that the donor completes all of the blood and other tests that are required.1 The reason for this is because the sperm is quarantined for 6 months.1 A blood test is done in the beginning, and at the end.1 This ensures that there are not infections that can be transmitted through the specimen.1

To be eligible to be a sperm donor you must be 18-44 years old, you cannot have been adopted, you have to be healthy and have no family history of genetic diseases.1 You will have to produce 4-8 specimens a month in a laboratory and you will need to make a minimum 6-month commitment.1
