The initial step is a consultation.1 Sometimes it is done of the phone or in person.1 They will basically go over the criteria of the sperm donation process.1 Usually you have to be 18-34; there may be a height regulation, 5'11'; there will probably be a weight regulation, a weight that is healthy for your height; there may also be education requirements, most of the time you will have to have at least a high school degree and a college degree; and you cannot have (or had) hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, genital herpes, venereal warts, Ebola, or a few others.1 They will take urine and blood tests to ensure that you are healthy.1

The next step is a full medical exam.1 You will be tested for lots of things, some that you will not even know existed, including; ABO-Rh blood type, a complete blood count, a chemistry panel, cystic fibrosis carrier screening, a semen analyses, sickle cell carrier testing, Tay-Sachs carrier testing, and a urinalysis.1 After you get accepted, you will be tested in more things including ALT, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and syphilis.1 You will also have to give more sperm.

The next step is to sign the contract.1 This contract is signing your rights of a parent away.1 You will have no legal responsibility to a child that may be conceived with your sperm.1 You have no rights to that child and you will remain anonymous.1 You will not know your children.1 When you sign this you will have to commit to the program for six months to three years.1 You are responsible for maintaining good health, and you have to report any chance that you contract a disease.1 You cannot masturbate nor have sex for five days before a deposit.1 They will only allow up to ten children to be born with your sperm usually.1

After all of this you will then get paid, if you are with a company that pays.1 The pay rate varies.1 Some places pay $1-$45 dollars depending on the quality of the sample, some pay for a sperm donation weekly for six months.1 You have to remember that about 5% of applicants are approved, but it is good to try.1 You may make some couple, or single mom, very happy.
